Sharing a laugh with the President and Secretary Of Education Arnie Duncan before my presentation in the Gold Room.

Rebecca Mieliwocki was chosen by the CCSSO as the  2012 National Teacher of the Year to represent America’s 3.2 million public school teachers in a year of travel, speaking, & advocacy that took her to 30 U.S. states and 8 nations while logging over 130,000 miles.

As a dynamic, enthusiastic, proud member of the education community Mrs.  Mieliwocki set out to restore admiration to the profession of teaching and to remind Americans of just how much is going right in classrooms across the country.

Rebecca loves being in the classroom with kids and so continues to work as a 7th grade English teacher at Luther Burbank Middle School in Burbank, California.  Maintaining her advocacy for teachers, she welcomes interview requests by the media  for questions about her profession as it changes and evolves.  She recently collaborated with several educators on the book, "What Really Works in Secondary Education", published by Corwin Press, and is available as a speaker.   She was chosen as the 2013 Burbank Woman of the Year by Zonta Club International.
